Meet Klaus Henneberg

Studying: Economics and Management
Position: Junior Business Controller
Employed since: April 2020
Fun fact: I have sailed across the Bay of Biscay in a tiny 30-foot sailing yard, experiencing full-blown storm on the way

MY BACKGROUND

I have studied my bachelor’s degree in Public Policy at Aarhus University (which, roughly, is half economics and half political science), and I am currently studying a master’s degree in Economics - also in Aarhus.

Having elements from both political science and economics makes for a broad profile, however, from my studies I mainly use my problem-solving skills and understanding of numbers in my work at DC.

WHY I WANTED TO WORK FOR DC

I thought it seemed like a cool place with a high degree of influence on the job and the tasks at hand as a student worker. I was also drawn by the financial aspect of my unit and thought that it would be cool to learn the rather technical skills involved in the many coding tasks within our team, which is inevitably becoming more useful than ever in many businesses.

The best part of my job is that I sometimes get to make some really cool solutions that reduce the workload from the team

WHAT I DO

As a Junior Business Controller, I use the majority of my time developing new tools or optimising existing tools for automating different tasks involved in our clearing and settlement processes. These processes are important because we need to make sure that the traded volumes and prices reported by our counterparties also match our own trading records. Some of my time, however, is also spent finding “the needle in the haystack”, using our tools to identify what needs to be done when the numbers don’t add up.

MY TYPICAL WORK DAY

Arriving at the office, I start the day catching up with my colleagues over a cup of coffee. Then I check my inbox to see if anything urgent must be done. Afterwards, I usually spend the rest of my day developing solutions in SQL or VBA. This can be challenging – sometimes just small fixes are needed, which will not cause a major headache, but most of the time I need to utilise the coding skills that I have learned in DC to develop more complicated solutions.

THE BEST PART OF MY JOB

The best part of my job is that I sometimes get to make some really cool solutions that reduce the workload from the team, thus making us more capable of handling even mores trades in the future. This is much needed as we do more and more trades every year in DC.
