Meet Mads Hansen Baattrup

Studying: Physics
Position: Junior Analyst
Employed since: June 2020
Fun fact: I am what we Danes call a "pilfinger" -  someone who touches everything out of curiosity

MY BACKGROUND

As long as I remember, I have been striving to understand the world around me. This means that I have always had a strong urge to acquire new skills and to master new technologies from the CD-player that I got at my first birthday to the latest technologies today. With this desire to understand the world around me, I saw only one natural choice for my university studies: Physics.

WHY I WANTED TO WORK FOR DC

I wanted to find a student job similar to something I can imagine myself doing after finishing my university studies. Furthermore, I wanted to find a student position where I could develop and acquire new skills. Luckily, I found the perfect match: DC. Working here constantly develops my skill and with a flexible company like DC I have no difficulties following along in my university studies.

The environment is dynamic and with a "there are no bad ideas"-attitude, I feel like everything is possible

WHAT I DO

I am a Junior Analyst in the Power Markets department where I am part of the analysis team. I spend the majority of my time working with various programming languages to create value for the department. For instance, I have developed web applications visualising weather forecasts, I have been assisting in setting up infrastructure for data management within our department, and I have also been assisting in developing a pricing model. All of which ultimately seeks to assist the traders in improving their decisions.

MY TYPICAL WORK DAY

As an analyst, I spend the majority of my time in front of a computer. However, this is also where similarities between work days end. I spend some days putting finishing touches on various projects. Other days are spent searching for hidden patterns in data to explore possibilities before starting a project. Finally, some days are spent debugging or refactoring trading tools.

THE BEST PART OF MY JOB

The environment is dynamic and with a "there are no bad ideas"-attitude I feel like everything is possible. Colleagues are sparring partners each being experts in some field. I am also motivated by the fact that I learn something new every day from how the market works to some neat Python feature that I can use in my programming. Apart from that, I feel valued and having people around me that rely on the quality of my work really motivates me.
