MY BACKGROUND

I was born in Copenhagen and have since then lived in Germany and the US, but Aarhus is the city where I have lived the longest and therefor it feels like home. I have a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering and am currently studying a master’s in Technology Based Business Development at Aarhus University. As part of my master’s degree, I spent a semester abroad working for Lockheed Martin in Texas before joining DC.

WHY I WANTED TO WORK FOR DC

I wanted to work in a young and dynamic atmosphere, where you get the responsibility and opportunity to be able to make a difference. DC also has a strong focus on people development and helps me further develop my skills within different fields such as programming and problem solving.

WHAT I DO

I am a Junior Dispatcher at DC where my key role is the scheduling and flowing of electricity throughout Europe, while also assisting the traders to ensure that daily operations run smoothly. Besides this, our unit also builds trading and dispatching tools in VBA and Python aimed to automate and optimise manual processes.

MY TYPICAL WORK DAY

Dispatchers cover different shifts throughout the day, 365 days a year, so my workday usually starts at 7 AM or 2 PM depending on whether I have the evening or night shift. We have a fixed set of more than 500 tasks that we must fulfill throughout the day both big and small. These tasks span broadly from uploading bids for power auctions, reminding traders of different things, and requesting capacity on electricity cables and flowing electricity to ensure that DC is balanced in all the grids where we operate.

THE BEST PART OF MY JOB

I am surrounded by highly dedicated and talented colleagues which keeps me motivated each day. When working on the trading floor, there are always unforeseen events that make every day different from the other which keeps the job interesting and challenging. I tend to learn something new almost every time I am at the office, which can be hard to find in other student positions. There truly exists a one-team mentality, as it is important that the operations on the trading floor run smoothly.
