Beatrice Offshore Wind Farm delivers first MWhs under 15-year PPA with Danske Commodities

20.07.2018

Danske Commodities announced today that British offshore wind farm Beatrice delivered its first power, marking the official beginning of Danske Commodities’ 15-year Power Purchase Agreement with Beatrice Offshore Windfarm Limited (BOWL).

Under the 15-year Power Purchase Agreement, Danske Commodities will handle all forecasting and trading for 294 MW, equivalent to 50% of the wind farm’s output. The agreement was signed in December 2015 and is Danske Commodities’ biggest and longest running contract in the United Kingdom.

“DC is committed to being part of the renewables future, and we already have a strong foothold across Europe with +5GW of renewables under management,” said Mikkel Kring, head of International Origination at Danske Commodities.

Danske Commodities sees good opportunities for expanding in the area of Power Purchase Agreements.

Mikkel Kring added: “Due to a steady and significant drop in the cost of deploying renewables, we are starting to see wind and solar being built subsidy-free. This represents a great opportunity for companies like Danske Commodities that specialise in managing the power market risk that new renewable projects now face.”

Danske Commodities has been trading power in the United Kingdom since 2010.

Beatrice Office Windfarm Limited is owned by SSE (40%), two funds managed by Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (35%) and Red Rock Power Limited (25%).
