European Energy and Danske Commodities sign agreement to optimise co-located solar and battery park
European Energy has selected Danske Commodities as its optimisation partner for Agersted Energy Park. Agersted is a co-located solar park and battery energy storage system (BESS), sited in Denmark’s Brønderslev Municipality in the DK1 price area. The solar PV asset has a generation capacity of 30 MWp and is co-located with a battery energy storage system (BESS) rated at 10 MW with an energy storage capacity of 40 MWh, enabling the delivery of clean, flexible, and reliable energy to thousands of Danish households.
Agersted Solar Park has been in operation since 2021, and the co-located battery energy storage system (BESS) has now been integrated directly within the solar park. The BESS enables excess solar generation during periods of peak production to be stored and dispatched at times of higher electricity demand and stronger market prices, improving the utilization and value of the renewable energy produced by the park.
“Agersted demonstrates how co-located solar and battery assets can create additional flexibility and value for the energy system. With Danske Commodities as optimisation partner, we have a setup that allows us to manage both generation and storage efficiently across relevant energy markets,” said Gregor McDonald, VP and Head of Energy Trading and PPA at European Energy.
Danske Commodities will be balance responsible party (BRP) & Balancing Service Provider (BSP) for the combined co-located asset.

As renewables become the backbone of the energy system, batteries offer the flexibility and fast response required to keep the grid stable.
Solar and wind energy production fluctuates based on weather conditions and the time of day, which leads to periods of over-production or under-production. By mitigating the intermittency of renewable energy sources, battery storage contributes to energy security and independence. It reduces the reliance on imported fossil fuels, helps countries meet their energy needs locally and facilitates a more sustainable energy future.
Through the optimisation agreement, European Energy and Danske Commodities will optimise energy production and storage at Agersted, providing much needed flexibility to the power market.
